Capacity-building of national level staff is very important for implementation of health adaptation plans in Member States as well as sustaining them in the long term. While advocacy and awareness on the health impacts of climate change have been created in the last several years, there is a huge need for capacity development of public health professionals to understand the linkages and streamline climate change in public health programmes, strengthening health systems, addressing health issues in the policies and programmes of other sectors and raising health concerns in international climate change negotiations.WHO-SEARO and WPRO jointly revised and updated a training package on climate change and health. To roll out the training package, the two offices jointly organized a Bi-Regional workshop on Climate Change and Health, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, 26-30 January 2015. This report features the proceedings of the workshop that resulted in a clear understanding by all participating countries and Regional Offices of the basic concepts and latest evidence in climate change science and health impact, best practices on adaptation and mitigation measures to reduce climate change, and methods of institutionalizing capacity building programmes at the national level."WHO greatly appreciates and thanks GIZ for their contribution in making this Bi-Regional workshop a success. Without GIZ support, the development of the training package and the workshop would not be possible".
