WHO/Europe and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) jointly coordinate TB surveillance in the European Region: that is, the collection, validation, analysis and dissemination of information and other related tasks. Both organizations have agreed to share the data from Member States. To perform these functions, they have developed a joint TB information system, setting up a common entry point for reporting by all the countries in the WHO European Region. ECDC and WHO/Europe use the European Surveillance System (TESSy) and centralized information system for infectious diseases (CISID) databases for data collection, and validate and exchange data to avoid duplications in reporting. The meeting was held to provide an overview of the TB epidemiological situation in the European Region, to present changes in the ECDC/WHO joint TB information system and to discuss the use of TB case definitions and future developments in the annual report. |
