The World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe and the Directorate-General forHealth and Consumers of the European Commission have established a joint three-yearproject to monitor progress in improving nutrition and physical activity and preventingobesity in the European Union (EU). The aim of this overview is to summarize recentdevelopments in implementing statutory and self-regulatory codes in the area of marketingfoods and beverages to children in the 27 EU Member States. Further, it is to support theexchange of experiences on policy development and action in this increasingly importantarea of public health.
