Tóm tắt : | The 156th Session of the WHO Executive Board will be held at WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, from 3 to 11 February 2025. Vide Convocation Letter No. C.L.28.2024 dated 2 July 2024, the WHO Director-General shared the Draft Provisional Agenda of the 156th Session of the WHO Executive Board with Member States.In accordance with Rule 8 of the ‘Rules of Procedure of the Executive Board’, any proposal from a Member State or Associate Member of WHO to include an item in the Agenda should reach the Director-General of the World Health Organization not later than 12 weeks after circulation of the Draft Provisional Agenda or 10 weeks before the commencement of the Session of the Executive Board, whichever is earlier. Also, in accordance with Rule 9 of the ‘Rules of Procedures of the Executive Board’, any proposal for inclusion in the Agenda of any item shall be accompanied by an explanatory memorandum.The High-Level Preparatory Meeting for the Seventy-seventh Session of the Regional Committee for South-East Asia, held in New Delhi, India from 2 to 4 September 2024, noted the Draft Provisional Agenda of the 156th Session of the WHO Executive Board and the modalities for proposing any additional Agenda item to the Executive Board Bureau within the given deadline of 24 September 2024.In view of the significant rise in metabolic diseases, attributable to changes in lifestyle and diet, posing a substantial threat to public health, the Government of the Republic of India emphasized the need to address the efforts in metabolic diseases, including diabetes, to mitigate their impact on public health. A modification to the first bullet of the Agenda item 7 in the Draft Provisional Agenda of the EB156 is proposed as “Reducing the burden of noncommunicable diseases through strengthening prevention and control of diabetes and other metabolic diseases”.The current members of the WHO Executive Board from the SE Asia Region (namely, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Maldives and Thailand) were requested to consider extending support in proposing the above-mentioned modification in the Agenda title.The HLP Meeting made the following recommendations for consideration by the Seventy-seventh Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia:Action by Member States(1) Take note of the Draft Provisional Agenda of the 156th Session of the Executive Board, and the timelines indicated by the Secretariat, for sending any proposed additional Agenda item(s), to the Officers of the Executive Board by 24 September 2024, accompanied with an explanatory memorandum.(2) Support the proposal form the Government of the Republic of India for modification of the title of the Agenda item 7 (sub-bullet 1) of the forthcoming 156th Session of the WHO Executive Board.Action by WHO(1) Provide the necessary statutory support to Member States in submitting the proposals within the provided deadlines, for inclusion in the Draft Provisional Agenda of the 156th Session of the Executive Board.The Draft Provisional Agenda for the 156th Session of the WHO Executive Board along with the HLP Meeting recommendations are placed before the Seventy-seventh Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia for its review, comment and noting, as appropriate. |
