94 p. In the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, a programme for the development of health services was started in the okrug (province) of Gabrovo in 1972. Designed both for the delivery of services and for demonstration, it is known as the “Gabrovo model”. The aim is the establishment of an integrated health care system covering the entire population of an okrug, based on scientific principles of public health and operating at a high level of effectiveness from the social, economic and medical standpoints.
