Thông tin chi tiết
Tóm tắt : | Vietnam has started its renovation process known as “Doi Moi” since 1986. However, until 1996 the objectives and new view-points of industrialization and modernization were “officially identified and standardized more clearly” in the documents of the 8th Vietnamese Communist Party’s National Congresses. The industrialization and modernization process was concretized in the 2001-2010 strategy for socio-economic development in the Ninth Party Congress in 2001. Up to April 2010, there were 219 industrial parks (IP) in Vietnam, of which 118 IPs have been operated and 101 IPs are being or will be built by 2015 (Lao dong Newspaper, April 23, 2010). While numbers of industrial parks have been rapidly increasing, research on the effects of the rural industrialization process on the community transformation is still limited. In order to contribute to the broader and deeper views of the rural industrialization impacts, this article will focus on the split-over effects of the Tien Son Industrial Park in Bac Ninh province on surrounding rural communities. The paper was written based on a case study, which was carried on between August 2009 and March 2010 in Nui Mong village, Hoan Son commune, Tien Du district of Bac Ninh province. The field data was collected from the key informant’s interviews of 20 local officials and 9 group interviews including 50 villagers and immigrant workers, by the combination of qualitative and participatory methods. This article contains 8 sections. Besides the introduction, next section is the profile of the research site in the context of rural industrialization in Bac Ninh province. Then, the socioeconomic of migrant workers, who are renting accommodations in the village, will be presented. Next, the economic, social, cultural, and environmental effects of the rural industrialization on the transformation of local communities will be presented in the next three sections. Some implications of the research findings will be discussed in the last section of this article. |
