Thông tin chi tiết

Tóm tắt :

According to different scenarios, Vietnam is considered one of five countries suffering the most from impacts of rising sea-levels and climate change. In addition to the coastal zones and the two large deltas – the Red River and the Mekong River – the uplands of Vietnam that make up three quarters of the land territory of the country will also be seriously affected. This paper, therefore, gives an overview of the natural and socio-economic characteristics of Vietnam’s uplands, including the main environmental and poverty reduction policies applied in these areas; the significant impacts of climate change on sectors and regions of Vietnam’s uplands, based on the medium emission scenario (B2) recommended by Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment, especially the impacts of natural disasters related to extreme climatic events and climate change, such as typhoons, floods, flash floods, drought, extreme temperatures and the like; and the difficulties and challenges of sustainable development in the uplands in the context of climate change. Information about experiences of integrating climate adaption into the policy making process, drawn from diverse studies in different regions, and initial recommendations for policy making in Vietnam flowing from this, are provided here.
