Currently, adaptation to climate change is an indispensable general trend and an important current issue. Adaptation aims to diminish the impact of climate change on human life. This report highlights some issues of adaptation through several research results from two case studies at grass roots level (Quy Loc commune - Yen Dinh district -Thanh Hoa province and Hung Hoa commune - Vinh city - Nghe An province). The report focuses on three aspects: the theory and role of adaptation; adaptation and the challenges involved in the two case studies; and some recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of coping and adapting to climate change This report is part of the research involving two case studies on adaptation to climate change carried out by a research group (lecturers and students) from the Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Faculty of Vinh University in Nghe An, Viet Nam. The research findings in this report relate to adaptation to climate change and some problems and challenges which these communities face. Based on the research findings, the authors have the following recommendations to enhance adaptation: improving people’s knowledge and skills related to climate change; sustainable production planning related to adaptation with the participation of stakeholders; more investment and cooperation in investment; and extension of information and of education related to climate change. In particular, the development and enhancement of linkages between stakeholders in the “Climate change knowledge and information system” aims to strengthen sharing, extension and application of information/knowledge related to climate change as widely as possible, in order to reduce the impact of climate change on human life.
