Chapter 2, The collaborative study on short-term in vivo tests for mutagens and carcinogens (CSSTT/2) 1983-85, in French and Spanish96 p. Summarizes the work of a major collaborative study concerned with the reliability of short-term tests for the in vitro assessment of mutagenicity and carcinogenicity. The study, which involved the participation of 60 key investigators, was organized in response to concern over the inability of the widely-used Salmonella, or "Ames", assay to detect carcinogenic potential in certain specific cases
