The annual meeting of the Forum was attended by representatives of nursing and midwifery associations in 28 WHO European Member States and observers from international associations and nongovernmental organizations. Forum members expressed concern at the shortage of nurses in Europe and the absence of a regional adviser on nursing and midwifery in the WHO Regional Office for Europe. They also reviewed the implementation and impact of the Munich Declaration, endorsed at the Second WHO Ministerial Conference on Nursing and Midwifery in Europe in June 2000, and recommended that a special meeting with government chief nurses be convened in 2003 to further review implementation. The members of the Forum took note of the work of the WHO Global Advisory Group on Nursing and Midwifery, set up in response to World Health Assembly resolution WHA54.12 on strengthening nursing and midwifery, and of the regional input to the preparation of a WHO global strategy for nursing and midwifery |
