This book is a response to repeated expression of interest by blood transfusion directors and national health authorities from a variety of countries, mainly but not exclusively in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, in establishing their own national plasma fractionation facilities. It compares the various fractionation methodologies available, addresses the issues which must be considered in making a choice and discusses how to implement a national plasma fractionation programme in a safe, professional and cost-effective manner. The fractionation needs of developing countries and the necessity for radical upgrading of countries blood transfusion systems are also discussed.
