In January 2010, the Director-General convened an informal discussion on the future of financing for WHO. The attached note by the Director-General for the Regional Committee (SEA/RC63/23) provides a framework for discussions for the future of financing for WHO at the Sixty-third Session of the Regional Committee. The issues and questions are drawn from the initial consultations, early responses to the web consultation, and informal discussions with Member States at the Sixty-third World Health Assembly and the 126th session of the Executive Board. The Third Meeting of the Subcommittee on Policy and Programme Development and Management (SPPDM) reviewed the Director-General’s note and recommended that the Sixty-third Session of the Regional Committee should take note of it and to consider the following recommendations: Action by Member States • Member States should get involved in the web-based discussions organized by WHO headquarters to reflect their specific views on the future of financing for WHO. Action by WHO-SEARO • WHO should continue to monitor the progress of implementation of measures addressing the future of financing for WHO. The working paper and the SPPDM recommendations based on it are submitted to the Sixty-third Session of the Regional Committee for its consideration.
