Tóm tắt :

Childhood cancers are the leading cause of death from disease among children and adolescents in countries of WHO Small Countries Initiative (SCI), with wide variations in five-year survival rates between countries. The topic of childhood cancer is of relevance to the SCI’s Roadmap towards better health in small countries in the WHO European Region, 2022–2025, namely the Healthier populations pillar for noncommunicable diseases and their risk factors. Childhood cancer a driver of inequalities and some SCI countries lack a full range of specialist paediatric cancer services in their own territories, leading to physical and mental health effects and socioeconomic disadvantage for survivors and potentially also for their families. Furthermore, access to childhood cancer medicines – and particularly child-friendly medicine formulations – is a persistent challenge in most SCI countries. WHO’s CureAll framework provides an integrated approach to meeting these challenges but SCI countries still need support in strengthening and actively increasing opportunities to affiliate with childhood cancer oncological networks – in the European Union and abroad – as well as support for professional development placements for paediatric cancer staff in countries where childhood cancer care is generally accessed. An integrated child-centred care approach is required for every child to tackle childhood cancers. vii, 15 p.
