Thông tin chi tiết

Tóm tắt :

These air quality guidelines are intended to help the countries of the European Region develop standards that, if properly implemented, will protect public health. Concerned by the extent of the air pollution problem in Europe, the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe has carried out a three-year project, with the financial support of the Government of the Netherlands, to establish air quality guidelines. More than 150 experts from 20 European countries and North America participated actively in the meetings convened by WHO to complete the complex job of establishing these guidelines. Air pollutants of special environmental and health importance for countries of the European Region were identified; 28 pollutants were selected and air quality guidelines were established for them. Although the main purpose of these guidelines is to provide governments with background information and guidance in making risk management decisions, and, particularly, in setting standards, this information may also help them to develop alternative control procedures. The guidelines also provide vital information for everyone dealing with air pollution. They may be used in planning and various kinds of management decisions in communities or regions. xiii, 426 p.
